Smitty’s Oyster Shooters
I moved to California in 1985. Being from Iowa, raw seafood was not at the head of my edibles list. One year later my family and I moved to Dana Point where I discovered the Dana Trader, the local watering hole. The Dana Trader had an Oyster Bar, something I wasn’t familiar with. Smitty, the Oyster Bar manager prepared my first Oyster Shooter, it was fabulous. Here is his recipe.
1 Large Shot Glass
1 Medium Oyster - Fresh in Shell
1 Lime Wedge
Pinch of Fresh Grated Horseradish
1/2 Tsp Cocktail Sauce
Tequila
Hot Sauce
Gently shuck oyster, removing all shell pieces
Slide Oyster (Juice and all into shot glass)
Add cocktail sauce and Tequila
Add a squeeze of lime and a small pinch of horseradish
Garnish with lime
Hot sauce to taste
